On October 1st, 2001, a group of young girls from across Ghana entered the secure walls of St. Roses Secondary School as curious and hopeful teenagers, seeking the best education Ghana could offer. We carried our dreams and aspirations in our luggage, while our loved ones bid us farewell at the place that would be our educational institution for the next three years, ultimately shaping us into proud alumnae.
Upon our arrival, we quickly identified ourselves as year mates, dorm mates, classmates, floor mates, subject lesson mates, and seating mates. We gathered on the sports field, attended church services at the chapel, and enjoyed entertainment in the assembly hall every Saturday night. Our lives soon intertwined as we woke each other up every morning, completed our social duties together, and helped each other with assignments. We shared meals, stories of our upbringing, and our hopes for the future. We did everything together.
We were eventually handed the blue check dresses, the color that identified our year group and all other school attires. Memories stand out, such as Pamela's elegant poise (Our very own School Pee), Susana Osabutey's sparkling clean attire, Jessica Brown's bold statements during our early entertainment days, Gertrude’s confident presence, Esther Kumi's exceptional leadership abilities, Jemimah Wallace's love for sports, Margaret Quarshie’s boldness, Ama Ofosu Kusi's frequent visits to the convent, Freda’s timely bell ringing, Demis’ unforgetable strides and the D (General Arts) class being the largest the school had ever recorded. Our three years were filled with memories we still laugh about today. Soon, our year would produce one of the best students in Ghana, the late Dr. Mrs. Akua Nketia Oblawu, who received the prestigious Presidential Award. We were that good! After all, we attended the undeniably best school in Ghana.
We fondly remember our teaching and non-teaching staff, some of whom have passed on, who went above and beyond to help us through our studies and exams: Mr. Kojo Dzamboi, Mrs. Afreh Nuamah, Mrs. Eleanor Salakpi, Ms. Sinka, Mr. Godson Ahiabor, Mr. Koranteng, Mr. Salakpi, Mr. Homouami, Ms. Mintah, Mr. Osei Bonsu, Mr. Akakpo, Yebima (we have forgotten his actual name as we always referred to him by this name), Mr. Teiko, Mr. Tsibey, Kester, Mr. Ofori, Mr. Owusu Ansah (Cisco), Monsieur Fiadzo, Miss Klay, Mr. Dzokoto, Mr. Atimah, Mrs. Teiko, Mr. Sampson, Mrs. Sampson, Sisters Marcelina and Jessie and our loving headmistress, Mrs. Victoria Amaning.
We also remember with deep fondness the non-teaching staff who became more than their roles on campus. They doubled as parents, counselors, chefs, and more: Mr. TT the photographer, Bro. Julius the driver (one of the remaining staff today), Mr. Azike the gateman, our very own Father Campbell, the late Fr. Rass our first chaplain, and Fr. Awuah, along with all the kitchen staff and everyone who worked on our compound. We salute you all.
We were fortunate to have our elder sisters and mothers, the Blue Prints, welcome and guide us through our first year at Roses. Our sisters in the yellow checks continued this in a sweetly rival way. Then we had the Hybrids to rival and the Brownies to pamper.
It has been 20 blessed years since we graduated from secondary school. We meet regularly for AGMs and fun activities. With the advancement of technology, we remained in touch through our WhatsApp group, where we organized educational talks (The Talk Lounge), supported each other’s businesses, and encouraged each other through tough times. We have attended weddings and funerals, celebrated many births, and, sadly, mourned some deaths. The once teenagers are now mothers, leaders, professionals, and parents. The once dependents have become independent, with our dependents now having a high sense of moral responsibility and accountability. We have excelled, though at different stages in our lives. We owe much of this to our journey through St. Roses. Everywhere we go, we see the difference. We are better and do better.
We have experienced growth and setbacks. We have felt God's goodness and providence at work in our lives. This is why we decided to celebrate and, in the process, give back to the school. Twenty years out of school, with all victories won, is a big deal for and we do not take it lightly. God has truly been good to us and we look forward to celebrating many more years together in great health and prosperity,.

Twenty years since her graduation from St Roses Senior High School, Gina Asiedu-Ofei has distinguished herself not only as a dedicated cyber security consultant in the United States but also, a passionate advocate for tennis. Known for her profound love for tennis that blossomed at the tender age of six, Gina has made a significant impact in both her professional field and through her nonprofit work with Bergins Outreach Inc.
In September 2023, Gina was honored at the African Community Service Awards. This accolade was not just for her prowess on the court but also for her humanitarian efforts off the court. Through Bergins Outreach, Gina has been a beacon of hope and empowerment for aspiring tennis players, promoting the sport while fostering an inclusive environment for all tennis enthusiasts. Her organization’s mission— breaking down barriers and providing opportunities for those with passion but not the means to pursue tennis.
Gina’s efforts in philanthropy are matched by her dedication to her career in cybersecurity, where she provides expert consultations and solutions that safeguard data and enhance system security across multiple sectors. Her foundation has also donated essential tennis equipment across Ghana’s 16 regions, influencing numerous clubs including the Ho Tennis Club, Saint Francis Tennis Academy, and Atomic Tennis Club.
The highlight of her outreach efforts are the vibrant tennis social events that are held in Ghana twice every year. More than just showcasing tennis skills, these events are a celebration of community, connection, and shared aspirations, illustrating the unifying power of sports combined with the rigor of her professional dedication.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech at ACSA 2023, Gina expressed gratitude for the community's support and dedicated her award to her parents, Albert and Georgina Asiedu-Ofei. Her speech resonated with a spirit of gratitude and a commitment to continue making a significant impact in both her roles.
As we mark the 20th anniversary of our class, Gina Asiedu-Ofei stands as a beacon of innovation and community service. Her journey—marked by every serve, every rally, and every act of kindness—reminds us of the transformative power of sports and community engagement. Gina is not just playing tennis; she is playing it forward, strengthening bonds, and inspiring change, one swing at a time.
