In February 1991, the initial cohort of Senior Secondary Students enrolled at St Rose’s, marking the beginning of a pioneering journey that we embraced at that stage of our lives. We were colloquially referred to as ‘Guinea Pigs’ for want of a better word. This slang is loosely used because we were the first batch of students of the new educational system which transitioned from the Cambridge system to the Junior and Senior Secondary system. In fact, amid uncertainty, most students had ‘escaped’ and entered the ‘O’ and ‘A’ level system due to parents’ unfamiliarity with the impending changes with the ‘new’ educational system. We were the ever famous and indomitable group who defied challenges, our designation as ‘Pioneers’ embodying our being as well as our resilience, whilst ‘Brown’ signified the distinctive colour checkered attire no one had worn before in the school, adorning us as our house dress. Through the divine favour and benevolence of God, we dispelled skepticism and have become outstanding, contributive citizens
for our nation. Of course, our time at St Rose’s not only imparted knowledge but
also instilled in us a profound sense of responsibility and unwavering discipline.
