who we are!
We’re the Golden checks
On 12th January 2001, a group of young girls from varied walks of life numbering
over two hundred and fifty were admitted to our prestigious school on the diamond
💎 soil of Akwatia. At the time, it was the highest number of intake the school had
ever experienced, and this subjected our innocent selves to varied derogatory commentaires from our seniors. Did it get to us? Of course it did! After all, we were
just teenagers, but in no time, we shook it off and started enjoying the school that we call “home”.
As early as our first term in St. Rose’s, we tried to do things our own way, but our seniors will have none of that, and so we suffered many punishments, and we actually had a lot of fun even executing them.
We began the tradition of year groups christening themselves with names asidefrom the colour of the check they wore. We wore a yellow check as our house dress and christened ourselves. “Golden Checks” and subsequently christened our school daughters of 2005, hybrid checks though they wore pink. A tradition that has been taken a notch higher in the school with year groups deriving their names from precious minerals and other things.
Our first year in secondary school was cut short by three months because the
secondary school system was changed from three years to two and a half years,and so before we knew it, we were in Form 2 by September 2001 and there were new Form1s... sigh!
Twenty years after completing St. Rose’s on 14th and 15th August 2003, we thank God for the opportunity of being old girls of this school as we’ve formed connections and relations we never would have formed if not for meeting as mates. The year group has produced all calibre of professionals who are indeed lifting high the name of St.Rose’s. We remember with fond memories all our teachers from Science through Arts toHome Economics but we especially say a big thank you to Miss Diana Mintah whom we christened “Wadenden”
